'The Teachers’ Lounge' wins 2024 Lux European Audience Film Award

German director Ilker Çatak’s The Lecturers’ Lounge has received the 2024 Lux European Viewers Movie Award.

The Lecturers’ Lounge was considered one of 5 movies shortlisted for the award alongside Spanish director Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren’s 20,000 Species Of Bees, Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki’s Fallen Leaves, French director Nicolas Philibert’s On The Adamant and Estonian director Anna Hints’ Smoke Sauna Sisterhood.

Organised by the European Parliament and the European Movie Academy in partnership with the European Fee and Europa Cinema since 2020, the Lux Viewers Award combines the rankings of the European public with the rankings of MEPs, every accounting for 50% of the ultimate end result.

The Award was offered final night time at a ceremony within the European Parliament’s hemicycle in Brussels.

European Parliament vice-president Evelyn Regner stated: “Tradition and cinema specifically play a pivotal position in solidifying our sense of a shared European identification. The values on the coronary heart of our European democracy are the identical as those depicted in at present’s movies.”

The Lecturers’ Lounge had its world premiere within the Panorama part of the 2023 Berlinale. It was Germany’s submission to the 2023 Academy Awards.
